For Your Inspiration

An artist's impression of a climate resilient world

Local is Our Future–a valuable resource and lots of hope for the future

Globalization was to be the solution to the world’s ills. We need not list how that hardly became the case. After all, we think about this all the time. But read on!

Local Futures is a vast resource for anyone concerned about the future. Its founder, Helena Norberg-Hodge, a linguist, author, and filmmaker, has initiated localization movements on every continent, which strengthen and maintain flourishing local economies and communities. Read about localization and action tips to resist and renew. Watch Norberg-Hodges’ powerful film, The Economics of Happiness, which has been translated into 27 languages—this link will also show you how to host a screening of the film, download a discussion guide, and lead you to a do-it-yourself toolkit to get your own localization movement started! Also refer to the article by Akhar Bandyopadhy on the recent Planet Local Summit which he attended in Ladakh, archived at the Fridays for Future Newsletter website.

Exciting, inspiring—the rise of renewables

Solar panels

Science magazine, published by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, has designated renewable energy as its 2025 Breakthrough of the Year. This short video gives a concise explanation of current developments, including China’s unprecedented growth of solar energy. On its website, the AAAS offers a longer article, an inspiring treasure trove of information.

Climate Choir seeks Climate Resilience

In the spirit of community resilience to ongoing recovery, a livestream evensong from All Saints Church, Pasadena, California, will commemorate the first anniversary of the fatal January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires. On 11 January 2026 at 1700 Pacific Time (0200 CET), a “climate choir” composed of singers from all over Los Angeles, including singers who lost their homes in the fires, will present an evensong to signal commitment to action to reverse the damage to our world. Organized by renowned seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones and the Dr. Lucy Jones Center for Science, and the Bishop’s Commission on Climate Change, the gathering will be led by Bishop John Taylor.

Dr. Jones’ work includes the Connected Communities Resilience Program to help communities build resilience plans for facing disasters. She and others have also created Tempo - Music for Climate Action.
