Global offshore wind energy production has grown by 15% compared to last year. This is mainly thanks to China scaling up its production by 6.9GW and the Netherlands with 1.7GW. This growth is set to increase with new projects in Indonesia, Chile and Malta.

US states are picking up the slack where the federal government fails to protect the climate. New York with climate bills, California is getting ready for legal fights and even some of the ‘red’ states are pushing for better climate policy.

Aviation Industry “Climate Plans” Are… No Plans at All! A recent (Feb ‘25) meeting of the United Nations’ Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP) revealed that “climate planning” is not a priority. The Guardian explains that aviation industry execs outnumbered green group representatives by 10 to 1 at the meeting. More on the aviation industry eluding climate commitments from Global Witness. NOTE In 2023, Alaska Airlines eliminated the use of 55 million plastic cups per year from its flights, replacing them with ‘responsibly-sourced paper cups’.

The Swiss government has been told it must do more to show that its national climate plans are ambitious enough to comply with a landmark legal ruling. The KlimaSeniorinnen organisation of more than 2,000 older Swiss women successfully argued that its members’ rights to privacy and family life were being breached because they were particularly vulnerable to the health impacts of heatwaves.
